The Liberals legislate an Omnibus Bill, two hundred laws in one bill so that one vote passes a lot of policy. The conservatives declare that doing so should be illegal and they would never do anything so vile!
An election occurs. The conservatives have a majority and they make many Omnibus bills passing, 400, then 500, then finally 900 laws in one go, so that no one can review what is now in the laws. They say it is perfectly legal to do so, despite saying before that they would make it illegal. The Liberals are furious and claim they will make it illegal to do so when they get in power.
An election occurs. The liberals have a majority and they begin making a new series of Omnibus bills…
The conservatives tell voters that they will legislate a system of proportional representation, if only they could gain power. They gain power with a majority and don't. The liberals say that after they get elected, if only the left would unite behind them, they would put in a system of proportional voting.
An election occurs and suddenly, proportional electoral reform is not a priority.
It is worse in America.
There is a simple budgetary that needs to be passed every year so that services can be paid, debt paid and people employed. It requires a majority of each houses to do it, and in the Senate 60 of 100 votes. They have a majority, but not 60 votes. When there was a Democrat President, the Republicans shut down the government when ever they could. Because it makes the ruling party look incompetent. But it is a measure that allowed government that did not have a huge majority to check a simple majority. It is something that the founding fathers saw as a check and balance. Simple.
As I said the Republicans shut down the Democrat government several times in the past this way. Now the Republicans need 12 votes to pass the money bill and the Democrats tell them, they will vote for the government, but they have to pass legislation that prevents the government from deporting illegal immagrants that came to America as children, the Dreamers. The Law has been ready for three months, but the Republicans don't want to pass it, so they have put it on hold.
So, the government is on hold and the cost of this hold is $6.5 billion a day. A day. The Republicans are saying that it is all the Democrat's fault. They would never do something this childish, ever. Never before either.
I wish that not voting was an option, but no votes are just not counted. People we need to voice our opinions and unite.
